I have a lot of aches and pains. Will exercising cause me to have more aches and pain?
That’s a common concern for many seniors. Actually, physical inactivity, or not moving enough, is one of the leading causes of pain. Numerous studies have shown that moving more helps to decrease pain, even in those with arthritis. It’s also been noted that people with a higher fitness level develop a higher tolerance to pain.
Agile 4 Life Fitness offers a number of classes that can help improve pain and fitness: Gentle Yoga, Chair Yoga, Restart Smart, Lengthen to Strengthen, and Standing Strong.
I’m not very tech-savvy. Is it difficult to get into the online classes?
Studies on dementia are showing that seniors who use technology actually grow more brain neural pathways, which helps prevent dementia. Plus, Agile 4 Life Fitness uses one of the most user-friendly online member support programs called PunchPass. They send you a reminder about the class and a link that you click to take you right into the class when it’s time.
As a side note, I’ve been training my dad over Zoom for 2 mornings a week since 2022, and he’s 98 years old. He’s not tech-savvy either, but has found this very doable.
Am I too old to get stronger, especially if I’ve never done any strength training?
The good news is you’re never too old to get stronger! Research has shown that we can grow quality muscle at any age with the right programming. And the trainers at Agile 4 Life Fitness have lots of experience working with older adults, so you can get amazing results. We offer expert cueing and instruction so you get stronger no matter when you start your fitness training.
In the Standing Strong and the Restart Smart classes, we use TheraBands to help build muscle and improve strength. These bands help you get stronger with no stress on the joints. Plus, they give you total control of how much resistance you want to use.
Can I get a quality workout at home instead of going to a gym?
Absolutely! Our members are getting phenomenal results without the distractions of excessive gym noises like dropping barbells and grunting or overly loud music. They find that having more quality instruction on form, more reminders on how to do the exercises properly, using more of their body weight, and using less equipment, plus not worrying about who’s watching them, means they can concentrate fully on getting stronger. That’s why so many of the members have decided not to go back to their old gym and continue to train at home with Agile 4 Life Fitness.
Will I need a bunch of large, expensive equipment to get good results?
That’s a great question. For our live online classes, you’ll be happy to know you need a minimal amount of equipment. So, no big expensive equipment that takes up valuable floor space. Plus, most equipment isn’t designed to give you a full-body workout! Check out the blog on Functional Fitness to see why that’s so important.
In our strength training classes, we mainly use cost-effective TheraBands, but may also use a set of light dumbbells (adjustable work best) if you take the Circuit class. You will need a sturdy chair, which you probably already have around the house, and an exercise mat is handy if you need some extra padding.
For a yoga class, a couple of yoga blocks or big books, an exercise mat, and a strap or an old necktie are all you need.
I can’t even get up and down off the floor. How can you help me get stronger?
So glad you asked. To start getting stronger, it’s not necessary to be able to get up and down off the floor. In fact, the more deconditioned you are when you start, the faster you make noticeable improvements in your strength.
In the strength training class called Restart Smart, we start by using your body weight (which actually weighs a lot) plus a set of 3 cost-effective TheraBands. We teach you the easiest, most effective ways to help your muscles get stronger faster!
It’s our expert training techniques that come from decades of experience that are the secret behind the phenomenal success of the Agile 4 Life Fitness members.
Do I have to purchase a monthly membership? I don’t want to get locked into a membership I can’t get out of.
We don’t play those games at Agile 4 Life Fitness. We offer memberships or passes to meet all needs. You can read all about them in the Subscription Terms at the bottom of any website page.
Even though Congress recently passed a bill making it harder for members at a brick-and-mortar facility to cancel their monthly or yearly membership, Agile 4 Life Fitness has kept it as easy as clicking a button.
That’s just another reason why we’re trusted by so many satisfied seniors.
